Vacation in Denmark: What you need to know before you go.

Denmark, a constitutional monarchy ruled by Queen Margrethe II, is located in Northern Europe between the North Sea and the Baltic. It is made of about 400 islands, the largest of which is Sealand, home for the Danish capital, Copenhagen. Denmark?s southern border is connected to Germany through the Jutland Peninsula.

Weather in Denmark is mild with temperatures ranging from 70 to 72 degrees F in the summer to 33 to 35 degrees in winter. Like all its Scandinavian counterparts, Denmark is characterized by short winter days and long summer nights.

Denmark is the most densely populated country in Northern Europe with a population of approximately 5.3 million of which almost a third lives in the Copenhagen metropolitan area.

Danish is the nation's language but English is widely spoken in Denmark as it is in all Scandinavian countries.

Although Denmark was one of the six founding countries of the European Union, it has not adopted use of the Euro. For a US dollar you get between 5 and 6 DKK (Danish Krone or Crown which is made of 100 Øre.)

Denmark time zone is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, and 6 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. Non stop flight time from the east coast averages about 7.5 hours.

Americans as well as most South Americans do not need a visa to enter Denmark. This is also true for citizens of EU countries, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
